- Indiana Lake Michigan Coastal Program
The Lake Michigan Coastal Program (LMCP), administered by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, supports coordination and partnerships among local, state, and federal agencies and local organizations. The program emphasizes protection and sustainable use of natural and cultural resources in the Lake Michigan region. The 45-mile long Indiana coastal zone along Lake Michigan is based on watershed boundaries varying between less than two miles to 17 miles in the counties of Lake, Porter and La Porte. The coastal program defines the exact areas that will be eligible to participate in the program.
The LMCP receives input and guidance from a 27 member Coastal Advisory Board. The Board provides a forum for public input on regional issues affecting Lake Michigan coastal resources.
The Indiana Coastal Grants Program receives an annual allotment from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for projects to protect and restore natural, cultural and historic resources in Indiana's Lake Michigan coastal region. Approximately $600,000 of this funding is available to local entities for projects meeting the program criteria for the 2014 grant cycle.
