Ohio’s Floodplain Management Program is administered in the Division of Soil and Water Resources within the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources. Each year program staff work with nearly 200 communities to provide federal flood hazard mapping and risk data, and assist with adopting compliant flood damage regulations. The Floodplain Management Program also serves as the state repository for flood data; coordinates efforts of federal, state, and local agencies involved in flood loss reduction programs; and, is Ohio’s coordinator of the National Flood Insurance Program.
The Division’s web site: http://www2.ohiodnr.com/soilwater/water-use-planning/floodplain-management provides a vast amount of floodplain related information including, flood insurance resources, flood maps and flood insurance studies, flood mitigation resources and assistance programs. Publications include the “Ohio Floodplain Management Handbook” designed for local officials administering floodplain regulations. The division also publishes a variety of floodplain-related fact sheets, and “The Antediluvian” a biannual newsletter regarding floodplain management practices.
